Speaking with renowned grief expert and author Claire Bidwell Smith: Episode #32

Updated: Dec 9, 2021

I had the pleasure of speaking with Claire Bidwell Smith who is not only brilliant with an unbelievable depth of experiences and knowledge. She is the author of three books; The Rules of Inheritance, After This: When Life is Over Where Do We Go? and Anxiety: The Missing Stage of Grief. Claire offers numerous online programs for grief in addition to working with people one-on-one. She explained how she was told she was "primed for this work" and gets into her own experiences with grief that have lead her on her journey now.

We dig into a little bit about my own grief and her thoughts on what I personally went through. Though I tried avoiding asking for free therapy; but, she was quite gracious about it! Specifically how I personally did not remember a lot of the trauma I went through when my father died. She helped me understand the normality behind that and how that is such common occurrence among children that experience trauma at a young age. Also, she tapped into how it is possible to tap into bringing these memories back. As she predominantly works with clients that lost a parent this was right in her wheel house.

A big message I got from it was the importance of not skipping the grief and letting yourself feel. There's no wrong way to grieve. There is so much more we went into in this 45 minute episode and I don't want to butcher the powerful messaging that she shares and I hope you tune into to hear it from her mouth to your ears, directly. She makes the conversation easy which is what I want to accomplish on this platform and she helps make this possible for a living. I support her mission and look forward to sharing this episode with you all!
